A Poc A Poc Danza was founded in Barcelona in 1994 by Jaime Camarena, and moved the company to his native Mexico City five years later. The company’s name translates as “little by little” or “step by step” and this is indicative of the incremental way it has had a wide impact in Mexican dance since then. The company and the choreographer have been multi-awarded and toured around the world. A Poc A Poc is not foreign to performing in the USA, with its most recognized participation at the Jacob’s Pillow Festival in 2005.
Thanks to an original artistic proposal and a sustainable management model, the group has gained recognition from the public and specialized critics, and subsequently institutional support, being widely recognized in the Mexican national artistic plandscape. At an international level, its participation stands out in the APAP (Association of Performing Arts Presenters) performing arts market in New York, as well as in the Jacob’s Pillow Festival, USA; Cali en Danza Festival and International Theatre Festival of Manizales, Colombia; International Cervantino Festival, Lila López Festival, International and OC’Ohtic Festival in Mérida, MEX; Exchange Festival in Portugal, Festival of Contemporary Dance in Algeria, FAE in Panama, Festival of the Humanities in Puerto Rico; just to mention a few. The company’s works has been presented in Germany, the United States, France, Cuba, El Salvador, Paraguay, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, Colombia, Algeria, Tunisia and Spain.
About Jaime Camanera:
Teacher and choreographer, Camarena was a student at the Barcelona Theater Institute. During his eight-year stay in Europe, he participated as a dancer, choreographer and teacher in different companies. In 1999 he received first place in the INBA-UAM Choreography Award with the choreography “E pur si muove”. In 2000, he won first place in the Ibero-American Choreography Award in Havana, Cuba with the work “Latitud 0… en el punto de la memoria”. He is founder and director of the company A Poc A Poc; his work has been presented in various international festivals in Germany, USA, Cuba, France, Paraguay, Brazil, Peru, Algeria, Tunisia, Colombia, as well as on the most relevant venues in Mexico, and the company’s work has been acknowledged and supported by the most prestigious cultural institutions and programs of Mexico.
A Poc A Poc Danza fue fundada en Barcelona en 1994 por Jaime Camarena, y trasladó la compañía a su natal Ciudad de México cinco años después. El nombre de la compañía se traduce como “poco a poco” o “paso a paso” y esto es indicativo de la gradual forma en que ha tenido un amplio impacto en la danza mexicana desde entonces. La compañía y el coreógrafo han sido multipremiados y han realizado giras por todo el mundo. A Poc A Poc no es ajena a los EUA, con su participación más reconocida en el Festival Jacob’s Pillow en 2005.
Gracias a una original propuesta artística y un modelo de gestión sostenible, la agrupación ha obtenido el reconocimiento del público y de la crítica especializada, y posteriormente el apoyo institucional; siendo ampliamente reconocida en el panorama artístico nacional mexicano. Acerca de Jaime Camarena:
Maestro y coreógrafo, Camarena fue alumno del Instituto del Teatro de Barcelona. Durante su estancia de ocho años en Europa, participó como bailarín, coreógrafo y docente en diferentes compañías. En 1999 recibió el primer lugar en el Premio de Coreografía INBA-UAM con la coreografía “E pur si muove”. En 2000, ganó el primer lugar en el Premio Iberoamericano de Coreografía en La Habana, Cuba con la obra “Latitud 0… en el punto de la memoria”. Es fundador y director de la compañía A Poc A Poc; su trabajo se ha presentado en diversos festivales internacionales en Alemania, Estados Unidos, Cuba, Francia, Paraguay, Brasil, Perú, Argelia, Túnez, Colombia, así como en los escenarios más relevantes de México, y el trabajo de la compañía ha sido reconocido y apoyado por las instituciones y programas culturales más prestigiosos de México.

Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s short story, First Love, Primer Amor is a love story between a man and a woman trapped in the most absurd loneliness, who share their destiny as a continuous beginning. This piece combines dance, clown, pantomime, and juggling techniques to create a playful performance for all audiences. | Inspirada en el cuento homónimo de Samuel Beckett, Primer Amor, es una historia de amor entre un hombre y una mujer atrapados en la más absurda soledad, que comparten su destino como un continuo comienzo. Esta pieza combina técnicas de danza, clown, pantomima y malabarismo para crear un espectáculo lúdico para todos los públicos.
