PORTA TEATRO – ITZHEL RAZO
Porta Teatro – Mexican company founded in 2014, with the need to find a multidisciplinary amalgam between dance, theater and visual arts, aiming at a theater of the body. Founded by Itzhel Razo, an outstanding interdisciplinary artist graduated in Dramatic Literature and Theater from UNAM with a specialization in stage direction and additional training in South Korea and Indonesia. Currently beneficiary of the SACPC Young Creators 2023-2024 scholarship in the specialization in stage direction. Porta Teatro’s most recent production, the one-woman show Wilma, was named best monologue by the Association of Theater Critics and Journalists (ACPT) 2023 of Mexico City. It has been presented at various international festivals such as: the Uruguay One-Woman Theater Festival (Montevideo), the IMPORT/EXPORT Festival in Germany, the Sor Juana Festival (Chicago) USA and soon at the RUTAS International Performing Arts Festival in Toronto, Canada. Also benefited by EFITEATRO and INBURSA 2023 for a national tour and a rerun of the season in Mexico. Selected in various national festivals such as: Festival de la Jóven Dramaturgia (2022), Festival de Monologos Teatro a Sola Voz (2021), ENARTES (2020), Festival es Tiempo de Mujeres (2020). Currently Porta Teatro is preparing its next production Carne de Cañón, a project benefited by the Young Creators 2023-2024 support from SACPC formerly FONCA.
About Itzhel Razo:
Director, actress, playwright and cultural manager. She studied dramatic literature and theater at UNAM, specializing in stage direction, with complementary studies in South Korea and Indonesia. In 2014, she founded the interdisciplinary company Porta Teatro, dedicated to the creation, production, and management of live arts in Mexico. Her work has been presented in Germany, Colombia, Uruguay, the United States and soon Canada. She is currently a scholarship recipient of the SACPC Young Creators Program.
Porta Teatro – compañía mexicana fundada en 2014, con la necesidad de buscar una amalgama multidisciplinaria entre la danza, el teatro y las artes visuales, apuntando a un teatro del cuerpo. Fundada por Itzhel Razo, destacada artista interdisciplinaria egresada de Literatura dramática y teatro de la UNAM con especialización en dirección escénica y formación complementaria en Corea del Sur e Indonesia. Actualmente beneficiario de la beca de SACPC Jóvenes creadores 2023-2024 en la especialización de dirección escénica. La más reciente producción de Porta Teatro el unipersonal Wilma fue nombrada como mejor monóloga por la Asociación de Críticos y Periodistas teatrales (ACPT) 2023 de la Ciudad de México. Se ha presentado en diversos festivales internacionales como: Festival del teatro unipersonal del Uruguay (Montevideo), Festival IMPORT/EXPORT Alemania, Festival Sor Juana (Chicago) USA y próximamente en el Festival RUTAS International Performing Arts Festival en Toronto Canadá. Beneficiado a su vez por EFITEATRO y corporativo INBURSA 2023 para gira nacional y reposición de temporada en México. Seleccionado en diversos festivales nacionales como: Festival de la Jóven Dramaturgia (2022), Festival de Monólogos Teatro a Una Sola Voz (2021), ENARTES (2020), Festival es Tiempo de Mujeres (2020). Actualmente Porta Teatro prepara su próxima producción Carne de Cañón, proyecto beneficiado por el apoyo Jóvenes Creadores 2023-2024 del SACPC antes FONCA.
Acerca de Itzhel Razo:
Directora, actriz, dramaturga y gestora cultural. Estudió literatura dramática y teatro en la UNAM, con especialización en dirección escénica, con estudios complementarios en Corea del sur e Indonesia. Fundó en 2014 la compañía interdisciplinaria PortaTeatro, dedicada a la creación, producción, y gestión de artes vivas en México. Su obra se ha presentado en Alemania, Colombia, Uruguay, Estados Unidos y próximamente Canadá. Actualmente es becaria del programa jóvenes creadores del SACPC.

Synopsis | Sinópsis:
Wilma tells the story of a girl who grows up as a foreigner in her own land, isolated by the racism and classism imposed by her grandmother, who prohibits her from learning Mayan and hanging out with Mayan speakers. One of the worst hurricanes in history suddenly arrives on the mayan peninsula. The alert for cyclones is issued in the Mayan language. She, unable to communicate with others, tries to survive a hurricane without anyone’s help.

Wilma cuenta la historia de una niña que crece como extranjera en su propia tierra, aislada por el racismo y clasismo que le impone su abuela, quien le prohíbe aprender maya y relacionarse con hablantes de esa lengua. Uno de los peores huracanes de la historia llega de repente a la península maya. La alerta por ciclones se emite en lengua maya. Ella, incapaz de comunicarse con los demás, intenta sobrevivir a un huracán sin ayuda de nadie.
